The Dying of
the Light
May 18,2004
We must protest the dying of the light. We are not
allowed to attempt that any more. We take a pill to
dull the pain or we lay down in fear of what we might see in
the light. "Do not go gently into that good
night". We do not. Just tell me what I am supposed to
see.
We accept failure. We use Handicapped parking. We let others
pay for our "scooter" chair. We do not fight the
dying of the light. We pull the draperies and dim its
radiance.
We do not ask our children to excel. We tell them that it is
a shame that the child, we used to call stupid, is
challenged and must always hold back...wait on him. We
now tell our athletes not to be proud of a victory in the
Olympics. We do not want to offend others, who might not be
as successful.
We handicap the brightest to the advantage of the worst. We
tax the achiever to support those who will not help
themselves. We harass those who will take a chance; cause
them to fail and place those who they had defeated in their
place.
Socialism has never worked, but we insist on perusing it at
a break-neck pace. We do not use words that can cubby-hole
any one. We try very hard to make the cream sink and the
after-birth rise; it won't do that naturally. We create
boxes to restrict the most creative, so they will not make
anyone jealous.
Enough! I will not go gently into the darkness. I will howl
with my last breathe against those who will take away the
light. We are but speck on the ass of the universe, but
we cannot let the sewer of the universe consume us.
