Where is it going?

A very Liberal friend and I were arguing yesterday, as we
always do. Then he said something that we agree upon; America
cannot survive as it is.
Ugly, but true. Democracy needs an enlightened population to survive; we are currently faced with a bunch or people who do not care for anything but self interest and quite frankly couldn't think their way out of grammer school, much less make life and death decisions in matters of our collective future.
In this light, I recently read the book "The Lucifer Principle". In this book the author does great research; and as most so called intellectual he missed the point of all that work in his conclusion at the end of the work. The most important point made is about the Pecking Order in nature and he failed when he overlaid it upon mankind.
Where this trip is headed is: in the most primitive areas of the world, chieftains fight over power, even in places where there are no spoil of absolute power. The infrastructure and the economy are non-existent due to power for power's sake mentality. They kill to fight off any challenge to their power and in the process kill of the brightest and most productive in that society. We in America do the same, just not in blood. We kill the ascension of any new blood by economic repression, therefore killing the hope and the future.
